What is MOT Type 1?

MOT Type 1 sub-base is crushed limestone or granite meeting Ministry of Transport specification SHW 803. Graded 0/32mm or 0/40mm with controlled fines content for optimal load-bearing capacity. Essential for highways, driveways, paths, and car parks.

What makes Type 1 special?

Must conform to strict testing including grading, strength, and fines content. Controlled fines provide better load-bearing than scalpings / 6n fill. It helps create a stable, long-lasting base for construction all material is tested and meets BS EN 13285 for unbound mixtures.

Where to use MOT Type 1?

It is an essential ingredient for adopted roads and highways meeting specifications. Perfect for driveways requiring long-term stability, commercial car parks and heavy-traffic areas. Please check if permeable Type 3 required for new driveways under SUDS regulations.

Compacts to approximately 75% of loose depth. Requires proper compaction in layers for optimal performance. Different names include DOT or MOT "Type 1" - all refer to same specification. Consider membrane beneath to prevent mixing with subgrade.

There is a 1 tonne minimum delivery on this product. This material is supplied loose tipped however for larger quantities we can offer it by the bulk bag or larger 29 tonne artic loads, 8 wheeler 20 tonne loads and 4 wheeler 11 tonne loads.
