We can supply Silica Sand that is perfect for most equestrian applications with fine sub-angular grains which help promote effective drainage and compaction. No official standard has been specified for equestrian use but we are able to identify the properties required which make a sand suitable for most riding arenas, schools, maneges (menages), lunge pens, gallops, race tracks and turnouts. The angular grains maintain firmness, whilst providing a comfortable and cushioned feel for those riding or lunging on the surface. The Silica Sand products are graded to remove clay and silt. Silica Sands with a primarily rounded grain should be avoided as they cause the surface to ride too deep. Inferior sand may lead to compaction, water-logging and eventual surface failure. If Silica Sand is cheap there is usually a reason why! The Silica Sand will perform better with when it is damp. Willis & Ainsworth suggest that the sand is watered if it starts to dry out. The performance and firmness of the sand will improve with the addition of the Recycled Rubber chippings or fibre. We advise that you poo pick on a regular basis to prevent the Silica Sand and surface from from being affected.
