What is Ericaceous Topsoil?
Ericaceous topsoil is specially formulated acidic soil for lime-hating plants. This low-pH growing medium enables successful cultivation of rhododendrons, azaleas, and other ericaceous species. Loose tipped & Bulk Bagged delivery suits creating acid beds in alkaline areas.
What makes it Ericaceous?
pH typically 4.5-5.5 compared to neutral topsoil around 6.5-7.0. Often includes composted bark and pine needles maintaining acidity. Free from lime and alkaline materials that damage acid-loving plants.
Where to use Ericaceous Topsoil?
Essential for planting rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, and pieris. Perfect for creating acid beds in chalk or limestone areas. Ideal for blueberry growing and other acid-requiring crops. Necessary for heather gardens.
Extra Information
Maintain acidity with appropriate mulches and feeds. May require containment in highly alkaline areas. Test pH periodically as may neutralise over time. Not suitable for general planting. Consider raised beds in chalk areas.
